15th August – Dunstable Teamsport 50lap Race

Had a lovely few days at Hopton, with lots of karting at Ellough park with CS Karting and AB Karting, but they don’t allow cameras so I wasn’t able to get any footage. I managed a 54.2, which is pretty much what I got last time I went. As usual the girls beat me in most sessions, but I did manage to outpace them a couple of times, mainly when they had naff karts. Back to Dunstable today for an early morning 50 lap race…or possibly a 50 yellow flag race. Apparently Red means go, and Green means stop…at the start I had to encourage the guy in front of me to find his accelerator as he just sat there not moving when the lights went green. Once I’d got past him it was mostly plain sailing for 1st place, though they really need to introduce blue flags. Kart number 3 was especially annoying, blocking me at every opportunity even though I was the race leader and was lapping him for the 2nd time. I got past him in the end by giving him a little love tap into the rear end of an unsuspecting backmarker…not very sporting but then neither was he. If you’re getting lapped, move over! Back there tomorrow for a public session to see if I can improve my times. I think I’ll try a seat packer and start to lean a bit more round turn 2 as I’m still coming out of that far too slow.
